How We Farm

Our farming practices are grounded in centuries of traditional Indian agricultural wisdom, combined with the best of modern organic science.

Agastya Mandalam organic farm

Farming as Nature Intended

At Agastya Mandalam, farming is not just a business — it is a philosophy. We believe the soil is a living organism that must be nurtured, not exploited. Every decision we make on the farm is guided by one simple question: “Is this good for the soil, the farmer, and the consumer?”

Our 50-acre farm in Tamil Nadu is certified organic. We welcome farm visits — because we have nothing to hide. What you see on our farm is exactly what ends up in your pantry.

Our Farming Methods

Six key principles that define how we grow

Seed Sovereignty

We use heirloom and indigenous seed varieties that have been preserved for centuries. By avoiding hybrid and GMO seeds, we protect genetic diversity and grow crops that are naturally adapted to our local climate.

Composting & Natural Fertilisation

Our farms run entirely on compost made from farm waste, cow dung, and vermicompost. We follow Panchagavya practices — using five products of the cow — as a natural growth promoter for our crops.

Natural Pest Management

Instead of chemical pesticides, we use neem oil sprays, trap crops, and bio-pesticides made from chilli and garlic extracts. We encourage natural predators like ladybirds and spiders to keep pest populations in check.

Water Conservation

We practice drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. Mulching with dry leaves and straw reduces water evaporation, while contour farming prevents soil erosion and retains moisture during dry spells.

Solar-Powered Processing

Our cold-pressing units and processing facilities are powered by solar energy. Cold-pressing preserves nutrients in our oils by ensuring zero heat damage, giving you the most nutritious product possible.

Crop Rotation & Intercropping

We never grow the same crop in the same field twice in a row. Crop rotation and intercropping maintain soil health, prevent disease build-up, and naturally improve yield without chemical inputs.

Certified Organic Since 2017

Our farm and processing units are certified by a FSSAI-accredited organic certification body. Every product is traceable from seed to shelf. We also undergo annual third-party soil and product testing to ensure our standards remain the highest in the industry.
